Looking for a weekend getaway in and around Ottawa with that perfect cozy hygge cabin vibe? Look no further! Let me show you around Wilder River Cottage, located 11 minutes from Renfrew and 45 minutes from Kanata, Ontario.

WHY WILDER RIVER COTTAGE?

Honestly it has everything you need for a staycation which, with the way of the world, what better way to spend a holiday. If you forgot something, the town of Renfrew is 11 minutes from the cottage and you are sure to find anything you forgot there. Before our stay the host was great to give us a very detailed guide to the cottage and the amenities.

We spent time here in January and it was VERY cold outside but in the cottage was very cozy and they have an assortment of board games that we made great use of. If the weather had been more forgiving they had an awesome outdoor fireplace and a shovelled off area to enjoy some ice skating.

Newly added and only a winter amenity is a 5 person hot tub that looks out on the Ottawa river. Perfect way to warm up after enjoy time outside with your family or even just a great spot to unwind with a greta view of the outdoor firepit before heading to bed.

The cottage upon arrival was very clean and if you are looking for a whole vibe the aesthetic was unreal. You can tell a lot of time and thought was put into all the decor (which is mainly from local makers/artists) to make this space cozy and welcoming for guests.

The internet worked great as I was able to work remotely during our stay which is very important when I am looking at accommodations.

We grabbed dinner at Renfrew Pizzeria because who would I be if I didn’t check out the local pizza. My mom and I agreed it was some of the best pizza we have had. We also enjoyed a complimentary drink left by the hosts from Whitewater Brewing Co . After looking into them more they even ship province wide so I will be ordering some for my husband to try now!

I brought my 3 year old son and mom with me and they both enjoyed themselves even spending most of the time inside. It is the perfect size for 4 people and in the summer they have a bunkie cabin which actually changes the number of people it can sleep to 6.

We will definitely be back to take in the summer here as I have read their beachfront is shallow and great for swimming. Walker is a little fish so I can see him never leaving the water until bedtime.
